My rule has become if C&K say drink it, I do. But I was already a Campari lover, so this was an easy decision. My mother gave me my first sip at age 12 after which I became determined to acquire the taste. So I know this posting is useful in making distinctions. Last year a dear friend asked me to read his first novel and I was embarrassed for him, but nevertheless, told him an Americano is not a Campari soda, as his hero thought. Nor is it a Campari spritz. Maybe…a Negroni light. BTW, my wife tasted her first Campari in Venice “having what they’re having,” and has moved on to become a Negroni aficionado. (The best is Sam Fowler’s at Olive or Twist, Portland, OR.) But whatever your leanings, light or heavy, put this one in your rotation.
