Welcome! I’m happy you’re here. You can call me Kate, which is one of many nicknames, or Kathryne, which is my full first name. Either way, I’m a self-taught photographer and cook from Oklahoma. I started this blog in 2010 and named it after my canine sidekick, Cookie. Now, we live in Kansas City and work on this blog full-time. I love my job!
You should know that I’m totally obsessed with food. I daydream about new recipes. I devour cookbooks (I even wrote my own). I read up on food policy and nutrition. I love photographing food and hope my photos inspire you to step into the kitchen to cook a delicious, healthy meal.
Above all, I love eating food, especially while in the presence of good company. Good food in good company—does it get any better than that?
I believe that cooking should be fun and recipes, flexible. I choose not to cook meat, so all of the recipes on Cookie and Kate are vegetarian. I believe in eating whole foods, which are foods that are as close to their source as possible. I’m also an avid supporter of the occasional indulgence, and I laugh with friends over drinks as often as possible.
This blog is all about celebrating good food—real, sustainable food that delights the senses and nourishes the body.
About Cookie
Cookie is a jaunty spotted mutt who makes friends everywhere she goes. She is my eager four-legged assistant, my chief crumb catcher and the best companion a girl could ask for.
I adopted Cookie in the summer of 2009. She came with her name and nothing more. Whether she was named for being one smart cookie, or for looking like cookies and cream, the name suits her well.
After five years of referring to Cookie as a “mystery mutt,” I finally caved and ordered a DNA test. My one-of-a-kind pup is half schipperke and half dachshund/Australian koolie mix.
Cookie left this world in 2023 after thirteen-plus incredible years together. I miss her dearly, and this website will remain Cookie and Kate in honor of our time together.

I’m not a vegetarian. Probably never will be. But due to the influence of my wife and daughter, I certainly see the benefits (health, environment, humane treatment of animals) and therefore make a concerted effort to seek out vegetarian recipes. I have always said to my wife that I don’t have a problem eating a vegetarian meal if it’s delicious. But, I’m not willing to sacrifice taste. Your website has literally been my beacon for finding the most delicious vegetarian meals. Everything I have tried on your site has become a regular in our rotation. It’s the only cooking website that I have bookmarked and the only one that I recommend to friends. So, thanks for what you do.
Kate
I’m glad you have been able to enjoy my recipes, Steve!
Kathryne Kent
Hey Kate – that’s how my name is spelled too! Don’t see it very often w the e on the end. I have been a vegetarian for over 40 years. It’s the best at least for me. Love my cheese tho so cannot do the vegan thing. A little over ‘indulgence’ on occasion is important! Keep up sharing your healthy recipes
Steve Virgo
thank you for all the delicious recipes on your site.
I really enjoy Mediterranean dishes and your versions
are the best I’ve had the pleasure of trying. I’ve also recommended
you to all my friends
Vivian
Hey, this is the only place where i have several recipes in rotation, I’m usually tremendously disappointed when i follow a recipe online. I always have quick pickled onions in the fridge, the enchilada sauce is another favorite. As a meatlover i sometimes add meat, but just as often i opt out and both work.
The only thing I’m missing is metric measurements!
Kate
I’m so happy to hear you are loving my recipes! Thank you for sharing, Vivian. I appreciate your feedback, maybe sometime in the future, but I can’t make promises.
Cindy
I concur, Steve. Well said! The only thing I could add is that the website and photos are beautiful and helpful. I love everything about this website! Thank you, Kate, for working so hard to bring us healthful and delicious recipes!
Celina
I want to make your Lentil Soup, but, due to health reasons, I want to see the nutritional values, but can’t locate. Please advise. (Note: I have Liver Fibrosis and can have only a certain amount of sodium and fat daily, thus my reason for attempting to locate the nutritional values, plus I am suppose to eat lentils every day if at all possible. I have been searching for a good, healthy Lentil Soup for 2 years and yours sound nutritional and tasty. I will add protein, i.e., chicken, as I also have to consume between 60 and 80 g. of protein daily. I cannot consume red meat, but can have all the fish and chicken I want as long as it’s not fried. Very difficult to cook these days. Please let me know how to locate the nutritional values of the soup. It sounds so good! Thank you. Celina
Kate
Hi Celina, you should be able to see the nutritional information by clicking to expand below the notes on the header. If you are having issues, try clearing your cache. I hope this helps!
Marlene
Hi Celina,
Throughout my health journey, I have consulted several vegetarian nutritionists and biochemists who agree on findings of protein and how this is far more available when created in your gut (i.e. leafy greens), rather than consumed (i.e. chicken). I’m in California where kale is available fresh and organic so I stuff my face in it. I can only it’s sad how difficult it has become these days to share our success on a diet if we’re not doctors or nutritionists. I’m an architect, life-long athlete, and lived in San Francisco for 6 years where I was able to indulge in fresh food knowledge. My point is, I used to have several diet-related health issues and the more I cut out food with hormones, the better I got. Listen to your gut, all the best!
Patty
Hi Kate – I am a part time vegetarian and my daughter is vegan. She recently had a baby so I’ve been cooking meals for her about once a week. I love that your recipes are so adaptable, and as has been said many times, they are always delicious!! I just made your Whole Wheat Blueberry muffins (regular and vegan) and they came out great both times! Thank you!!
Alli
Celina, it’s also extremely close to the recipe for Curried Lentil Soup by America’s Test Kitchen. They have precise nutritional info on their recipe if you want extra insights or validation.
Sonya
Agreed, Steve! I have never been let down by a recipe on cookie & kate!
Kate
Thank you, Sonya!
Amna khan
Good job Kate.
Cristal
So happy I bought your book. This summer I plan on trying all of your salads. I just read the update on cookie and I wish her well wishes and prayers.❤️

I’m not a vegetarian either, Steve. My brother introduced me to C&K because he’s an excellent chef and my sister-in-law is a vegetarian. EVERY SINGLE RECIPE I’ve tried on this website for years now is absolutely phenomenal. It’s my go-to source for almost everything I make now. I’ve shared C&K with dozens & dozens of non-vegetarian friends who always ask for the recipes after dining at our house, thus creating even more C&K devotees! Thank you immensely, Kate – & belly rubs to Cookie.
Kathryn
I forgot to add, the frittata was as good as anything I had in Spain
Andrew
I am a closet keto man, not all vegan recipes are keto friendly, can you help me find the vegan recipes that fit my Keto challenge?
Karin Schwab
Hi Kate,
I have your book and just love your recipes. I became vegetarian a year ago for the same reasons you describe in your book. With your recipes and those you post, I am eating very well! And love in your book that you alert us all to what dogs shouldn’t eat!! My 11 year old Boston Terrier is enjoying nibbles from the dog friendly recipes you have! I recall reading awhile back that you had a health scare with Cookie. She is just adorable!! I was wondering how she is doing?
Kate
Hi Karin! I’m delighted you are enjoying both my book and blog. I appreciate your support! Cookie still seems to be handling treatment well and hoping for the best.
Nikita Jha
Hi , I’m Nikita but please call me Alex, ( I like it way more )
My mom is obsessed with your cookie recipes. Now that she is gone to India, I really miss those cookies. Luckily my dad has promised to make some with me . Also… I love dogs so when my mom told me about this website I kept loooking at recipes and asking my mom to make them .
I’m 10 by the way . Other people , pls don’t hack me!!!
Carol Giaco
Hi Kate,
Just leaving you a comment to let you know this is my favorite food blog, hands down! It is uncanny-it seems like every time I’m the mood for a specific food or want to use some ingredients I have, one of your recipes comes up. I think I might have identical taste in food! Anyways I also used to live in OKC and I worked at med imports so one day I was craving their bean salad and looking up a recipe and of course yours came up with a shoutout to med imports! Anyways keep up all the good work-I finally ordered your cookbook today and look forward to using it!
Kate
You’re so kind, Carol! Thank you for sharing. It’s wonderful to know you can trust the recipes and content. I do spend a lot of time on them! :)
Paige
I just wanted to thank you for all the work you do on this terrific blog. Your recipes have inspired me to cook more for myself and explore more wholesome ingredients, and I have enjoyed every bite (my dog Poppy enjoys the occasional bite, too). I’m also in Kansas City, so I love all the references to this great town and its awesome food! Thanks again for all you do!
Kate
Thank you, Paige! I’m happy to hear that.
Erica Ward
Hi Cookie and Kate! I LOVE your recipes and have followed you for years! You’re always my first stop when searching for recipes and lately I’ve been looking for a good butternut squash lasagna…. Would you consider adding that?? Thank you!!
Erica
Kate
Thank you, Erica! I appreciate your review.
Jennifer
Thank you!!! for the pecan butter recipe. Never did I ever conceive that pecans would make an exceptional delicious nut butter – better than almond butter. Pecan granola bars are setting in the fridge – can’t wait to try them.
Kaye Drake
That does sound good. I’m born and bred in Missouri and love pecans!
Jackie
Hi Kate, this has been said before, but yours is my favorite food blog hands down! I’ve been vegetarian for 4 years and I haven’t been able to find any other recipes that come close to beating yours. I especially appreciate how you make a point to include seasonal ingredients in your posts. Thank you for the good eats!
Kate
Thank you so much, Jackie! I do truly appreciate it. :)
Hilary
Every single time I use one of your recipes it comes out amazing! Thank you!!! Absolutely love all of your cookies and am now a pro at flax eggs and use them all the time thanks to you!! X
Kate
I’m happy to hear that Hilary! Thank you for your review.
Denise
Looking forward to checking out your cook book! Just found your blog.
Astrid Kavanagh
Hi. Is your oven temp for fan forced or conventional?
Kate
Hi! It’s conventional.
Janice
I always assumed that Cookie and Kate were two cooks. Now I know who Cookie is. She is absolutely adorable and definitely plays an important role in your food blog!!
Kate
Thank you, Janice! She is pretty special.
Emily
You are a genius. I never comment online, but I’ve gotten so much joy out of your recipes over the years that my debt of gratitude is way overdue. I LOVE your ideas and techniques! Thank you so much for sharing. Your introductions are always delightful to read too.
Kate
You’re very kind, Emily! Thank you for your comment.
Sharron Holder
hi kate, i would lv to save many of your recipes. i am unable to see how that is possible. where is save located. i see saved at top of page but it did not save the recipe.
Kate
Hi Sharron! Thank you for your comment. If you go to the bottom of the post, in the recipe itself an option to save there. It’s in the header with the ingredients. I hope this helps!
Lindsay Parks
Hi Sharron,
I love all of Kate’s recipes too and finally bought her cookbook. Like you I wanted to save many of them for quick reference since they aren’t all in her cookbook. So I paid $5 for a recipe app called Paprika 3. Took me an hour to use it enough to make it useful, but it’s fabulous! You can save recipes by category (salad, vegan, appetizer, etc). I now have 100’s of recipes in it. Once I actually make one, I rate it to know if I want to make it again. I can double or halve the recipe with one keystroke. I can makes notes on things I change or substitute. Good luck!
Smellery
Legit recipe. I’m an omnivore but made this blindly and untested for my veg sister and her family. They said they loved it, and my niece had seconds! I love it when a recipe actually works out great… looking forward to exploring more of your recipes!! Thank you!! (Hi Jess!!)
Meagan
I stumbled upon your website awhile back and I am so glad I did! I was in search of a butternut squash soup recipe and I found yours. It was SO good and so easy to make! I am always trying to find recipes that are simple, delicious, and use real ingredients. I bought your cookbook a couple months ago and have tried so many of the recipes already! I loved your cookbook so much I bought my best friend one as well. We often text each other about recipes we’ve tried and we have yet to be disappointed. I typically don’t comment, but I had to say thank you!!
Kate
I’m happy you did as well, Meagan! Thank you for taking the time to review. Always be sure to rate the recipes as you try them, it really does help!
Sauc'd Foodcart
Hi friend,
Though I’m not vegan personally, I am a fellow imaginer of food, and a few times when I rattled off ideas to google your website came up with a striking parallel. As a kindred spirit of sorts, I just wanted to say hello.
Barbara Hale
Hi Kate! Some of my friends have started making their own healthy dog food. Have you tried this? Do you have any canine cooking tips? What does Cookie like to eat?
Kate
Hi Barbara, sorry to disappoint but I don’t!
Laurie
Hi Kate,
So, I was looking for ratatouille recipes and stumbled upon yours. It was so incredibly delicious!!! I’d had ratatouille once years ago and really enjoyed it and hadn’t had it since, but I’ve recently gone vegan and wanted something healthy and yummy. This was such a feast of flavor no wonder your husband enjoyed it more than any ratatouille he had in France! Thank you!!!
Kate
I’m happy you loved it! Be sure to leave a star review since you loved it. Thank you for taking the time to comment, Laurie!
Lisa
We so enjoy your recipes, thank you. Now we planned to go out for the first time to celebrate a birthday but it is going to be too chilly to fully enjoy it. So now i need ideas for a fancy healthy dinner. What do you suggest?
Kate
Hi Lisa, sounds like you have much to celebrate! Hooray! How about an oven-baked risotto with a big green salad? I love my mushroom or butternut risottos and would pair them with a big Italian chopped salad. Lasagna would be great, too!
Colin H
Hi Kate….and Cookie

Kate, will you ever publish another cookbook? Yours is my favorite one!
Kate
Thank you, Katie! I’m happy you loved it. I don’t have one in the works currently.

Your site is on my iPhone homescreen so I can jump right to it. Always find good stuff here.
Calise
Hi Kate! I just want to leave a comment and say thank you for all the excellent recipes you post here– I’ve consulted your site so many times when trying to create veggie-forward dishes that everyone (not just vegetarians) will love, and your recipes always hit the spot! Thanks for all you do! :)
Kate
You’re so kind, Calise! I’m delighted you have enjoyed my recipes and keep coming back.
Heidi
Every time I want to make a new dish I check to see if you have a related recipe and try that first. Every one I’ve tried has been fantastic! Thank you so much for this wonderful page! Your lentil soup has taken first place on my favorite meals to make and I do so, all the time, all year round lol.
Kate
Thank you, Heidi! I’m happy to hear that.
AJ
Hi Kate!!
I stumbled across your blog in an attempt to search for Vegan recipes. I’m a Vegetarian of 26 years seeking to finally transition to becoming Vegan, in order to reap the benefits of a fully plant-based diet. I really love your content and photos. Your site will definitely become a frequent spot for me. I’m also looking into purchasing your cookbook. Thank you for your awesome work!!
P.S. I am originally from Kansas City – Born and raised! I now live in Nashville. :) Enjoy my hometown for me.
AJ
Kate
Hi AJ, Nashville is such a fun place, I hope you are enjoying it! I hope you love my cookbook. Thank you for your kind words!
Michael
Kate,
My wife and I have recently overhauled our diet in an effort to lose weight and improve our health. It probably goes without saying that a huge step in the right direction includes tipping the scales significantly towards a plant based diet. Echoing a previous commenter, it’s doubtful that my wife and I will ever abandon all meat. However, replacing old, tired recipes with healthy new foods and flavors has been instrumental in our journey.
I was running through a bunch of bookmarked recipes I had recently found, trying to decide what to cook next when I realized that the majority of that list were YOUR recipes. They’re all so flavorful, so vibrant and I know from experience that they’re reliable. Thank you for sharing what you do – it has certainly inspired us to eat healthier – so much so, that I just ordered your book.
Tomorrow’s Menu:
Tandori chicken (not one of yours, but should compliment)
C+K Crispy falafel
C+K Mujadara
C+K Favorite Quinoa Salad
Yes, we like leftovers thank you for all you do!
Kate
I’m glad you have a menus planned with lots of my recipes!
Katie
Hi Kate,
I am the most enthusiastic cook but often have disastrous results. I’m planning a veggie dinner party for my Book Club and tried out your aubergine lasagne (from your cook book) as a practice run. It’s so utterly delicious I actually can’t believe I made it! Thank you so much!
Would I be able to make this the day before but not bake it and then just put it in the oven to bake before the dinner party?
Kate
Hi Katie, I’m happy you are loving my cookbook! Unfortunately, I don’t recommend too long for it to sit in the refrigerator unbaked as I find it releases water and you don’t get as good of result. But, let me know if you try it and have a difference experience!
Colette
Hi Kate!
I recently discovered your blog and I absolutely love it. It is helping me eat more vegetables and I have learned a lot about cooking! When I choose a cookie and kate recipe to serve to friends they are always impressed. Thanks for providing all of these great resources!
Kate
Thank you for sharing, Colette! I’m happy you come to the blog for delicious food and share it with your friends.
Brook
Hello Kate
Your recipes are my go to! I eat a WFPB diet with the men in my house all meat eaters (hubby and two sons). I refer to your recipes all the time as I find them easy to tweak to suite us all and of course super delicious! We are Australian, but are based in the highlands of Papua New Guinea for my husbands work so your recipes are being cooked all the way over here. Thank you for all the hard work you put into your recipes, photography and social media.
Kind Regards
Brook
Ann E Smith
I’ve been using your recipes for about 2 years, and I enjoy everyone I’ve tried, I have your cookbook. Do you have any recipes that use Agave as the sweetener, I’m avoiding sugar and artificial sweeteners.
Thank you for all your work and keep cooking.
Kate
Hi Ann! Thank you for purchasing my book. I’m excited you loved it. Sorry to disappoint, but I don’t have any.
Sheila Inglin
I LOVE YOUR COOKBOOK ❤❤❤ I am type2 diabetic always looking for healthy new recipes and I believe I have struck Gold with your book!! Thank you Cookie + Kate from the bottom of my heart !!!❤❤ excited to start cooking healthy !!! ❤
Kate
I’m so delighted you are enjoying my cookbook, Sheila! I appreciate you taking the time to share.
David Hardy
I was guessing, ” Aussie;” Kate greatly resembles the Blue Healer cattle dog; muscular chest, strong as an ox and a personailty just as big. They need to be paired with a self secure kind hearted human like you or like the lovely Staffordshire they can be swayed to become afraid, defensive, and thus aggressive. cheers…
Charlotte Fleming
Hello from Wales, I am great fan of yours and ‘Love real food’ is one of my best used cook books.
I would love it if you took pity on we British and gave your ingredients buy weight as well as cups. 3 cups of mashed banana (for healthy muffins) sees me mashing them and pressing them into my cup measurer three times. SO much easier just to weigh them!
Warm regards Charlotte and Peanut
Kate
Hi Charlotte, Thank you for your comment and so excited you have my cookbook. I appreciate your feedback. I try to provide weights when I can, but isn’t always a perfect conversion.
joe mama
bababooey! love the toasty!
Tom
Hi Kate,
Love your recipes – always my top choice when I google a dish and see that you’ve written one.
Cookie is also very cute, I saw in a comment that she’s having treatment – hope all okay!
Thanks,

Hi Kate
Your Kale Pesto recipe has been a discovery I stumbled on a year ago. I have lost count of the number of times I made it for dinner. its an absolute hit with my 3 year old , who would have thought ! I have had my friends love it too and ask for the recipe. thank you for making kale interesting . love your blog and recipes
Kate
I love that! Thank you for sharing and glad you find the blog as a resource.
Anne L Donovan
Thank you so much for doing your foodie healthy thing! I love your stuff, all of it. I have your book and look at your website all the time, and literally every recipe we’ve tried is a hit. Whether I want to impress and celebrate, or make something fast, you come up with what I need every time! The recipes are so adaptable. I put all your dressings on different salads now. I tell all my friends and family who want to make more healthy meals about your book and Instagram. Thanks so much for all the healthy, tasty, fun, and easy meals you have introduced to my family!
Jeanine
I found your granola recipe a few years ago and it has ruined me for any other granola. I even make batches to take with me when I travel! Just tried your mayo-free potato salad. Yum! So fresh and light. And I bought your cookbook, which provides great weeknight inspiration. Thank you thank you thank you! Keep those recipes coming!

I’m allergic to dairy and my husband is allergic to eggs, so I am always looking recipes everyone in my family can eat – and will enjoy. I usually start with an idea of what I want to make and then go searching online for a vegan version, or one I can substitute with non-dairy/non-egg products. I’m always happy when your recipe is on the search results page because I know we’ll enjoy it. Several of our favorite, go-to recipes are yours: mango salsa, butternut squash pasta and minestrone. Thank you for doing what you do and for sharing your gift with all of us!
Heather Lambert-Shemo
Your recipes are simple and crazy yummy! Generally, I search the interwebs by ingredient or a particular dish and then select a recipe based on ratings and overall process. However, I realized today that for the past year, anytime you come up in the search results, I always pick your recipe. Our oldest daughter follows a plant-based diet, my husband is follows a “mostly plant-based” diet and the other three of us are not yet willing to give up eating meat, but are making an effort to become “mostly plant-based.” Your recipes make it EASY to choose plant-based meals that everyone will devour. Thank you for following your passion!!
Kate
Thank you, Heather! I’m glad you have found my recipes and are enjoying them.
Carl
Started with your black bean enchilada recipe. It became a regular go to recipe, though never the same 2 times in a row.
Just tried the baba-ganoush. Not quite there yet… has promise as a change from hummus.
Also tonight, made a veggie lasagne with slices of butternut squash instead of pasta. Similar idea as your enchiladas, so you deserve some credit for the dish.
Mary Hagan
Cookie and Kate, you make me smile! Happened to find you while searching for “best enchilada sauce” – your truly IS, by combining both a rue and tomato paste (GF flour works well). Navigated my way to the spinach-artichoke enchiladas, going to make them tonight. Love Cookie and your fun, healthy approach. We have our own beloved mutt (red hound/boxer/lab/etc etc) and enjoy adding vegetarian dishes to our menus!
Kate
Thank you! I’m happy you enjoyed the enchiladas.
Joli
I’m here for Cookie. Ok, I love all your recipes I’ve tried. Your my go to for new vegetarian recipes. Ok must confess. I really am here for cookie. She looked Austrian to me. My dogs attended Agility with some Aussies. Joli

Widowed and helpless in the kitchen, I nevertheless started a garden this year and just harvested quite a few tomatoes. I googled for a tomato salad recipe and found yours. I haven’t made the salad yet but I’m sure it will be delicious.
What struck me was that adorable pic of your companion “Cookie”. I too have a great friend and companion, a rescue named Draco. So this comment isn’t so much about food as it is a shout out to our lovable canine friends.
Kate
Thank you, Arno! Dogs are great friends.
Devin Fredrickson
I’ve often ended up on your website for vegetarian recipes when I can’t figure out what to make. But I finally got around the buying your cookbook. Planning to try to cook through it for the rest of the year. Thanks for creating great recipes that are easy to follow – and don’t sacrifice flavor!
Kate
Thank you for buying my cookbook! I hope you love it, Devin.

I lost my 12 year old Great Pyrenees February 24th 2021.
The coldest winter we have ever had in Texas.
There’s not a day that goes by that at least one tear drops from my eye when I think about him.
I love to cook , And he loved to eat !.
And I’m so thankful I found your recipe blog.
It helps me clear my mind.
And needless to say , Your recipes are always fantastic !
The compassion that you have for cooking, as well as the love you have for your adorable companion brings me a level of happiness that is beyond words.
Thank you Kate !
Ashley
I was reading your recipe for Creamy Roasted Carrot Soup and you mentioned experimenting with using water as a broth alternative. I struggle when eating foods with additives, and am super excited to hear your results! Do you add any extra seasonings when using only water?
Kate
Hi Ashley! Follow the recipe as directed. You may adjust the salt to taste, but I think it’s delicious. Let me know what you think!
Border collie mom
Hi Kate. Love your veggie lasagna. I’m Italian and outside of the ricotta that I love, yours is pretty close to delicious Italian! Can’t beat olive oil, garlic, any veggies, and besides sticking to ricotta and adding some Romano cheese too, all because of being Italian it’s very good. Your Cookie is adorable and I knew she had Australian collie in her somewhere. I too have rescued several collie, ranch dogs and they are very smart, special. I hope she is with you many more years. Thank you for the delicious recipes. We are cutting down on meat and your recipe is a keeper. Much love.
Michael
If you were able to track those who use your blog and recipes, you’d probably think I’m stalking you. Your site is THE go-to for me for creative and practical ideas and solutions. So thank you! A job (continually) well done! And, Cookie’s kind of cute.
Malcolm
What a great looking old girl.
My question is do you have her on a vegan diet too?
I am not trolling, I am a retired chef with around 40 years experience, twenty or so in the trenches but also someone that adopts, fosters and shares his life with animals.
For my guys and girls getting older and prone to joint issues I have a developed treat I’d love to share.
Point is it isn’t vegan so I wanted to ask first.
Kindest regards,
Chef (retired) Malcolm Banton

Hey Malcolm, Just couldn’t resist correcting something here (hope you don’t mind- I do it all the time (I SHOULD’ve become an editor, not my chosen career..); Kate is actually NOT VEGAN, she’s a VEGETARIAN, so her cooking /diet includes dairy products, maybe some fish, definitely eggs…So many people think that these terms mean the same thing but they’re different. Vegans, whom I admire but I just don’t think I could manage meals without cheese or butter, or yogurt, are way more ‘take no prisoners’ about their food choices than us vegetarians. Just FYI.

There is no place to print recipes. I can’t seem to be able to find the so called print icon, only save. If you don’t have that option available please take me off your subscription list. Love your recipes though!
Kate
Hi Jennifer, I am sorry you are frustrated. I am actively working to get it fixed, but it’s taking time due to what is involved. I would be sorry to see you go, but you can unsubscribe if you prefer. I appreciate patience and understanding as I try to get it resolved.
PeggyC
Hi. Just want everyone to know that the taco salad recipe in Kate’s cookbook is the best salad I have ever eaten. I loved it. It was an easy recipe that I munched on for a couple days. The dressing is the bomb.
Kate
Thank you, Peggy! I’m glad you love it.
Debra White
Hello Kate. I just made your roasted butternut squash soup and it looks delicious but mine is a little too garlicky. Is there any way I can tame down the garlic?
Kate
Hi Debra, I’m not sure about cutting it down now that you have already made it. Sorry you found it too garlicky.
Debra White
Not your fault. I used a larger clove than the others so should have compensated. Thank you for your reply though.
Douglas Radtke
I’d like your take on an idea I have for cranberry orange pecan honey butter recipe. I read your recipe on pecan butter. How can I incorporate cranberry, orange (use zest mabe?) and honey (or maple syrup)? Thx!
Kate
Hi Douglas, Without testing it myself, I can’t say for certain. Sorry! If you get creative and try something you like, let me know!
Arthur
Hi Kathryne,
Just a small message to let you know I’m going to make crispy tofu tonight using your directions. Thank you and greetings from the Netherlands.

Although I’m aware your site is a cooking site ( a very good one I should add ) I’m a wee bit surprised there’s been no mention on your latest e-letter stating that today November 11th, is Veterans day in the US. This is the one day of the year to stop for a minute to pay respect to the many fallen who are the reason we’re able to have the freedom we have today.
I’m certainly not singling you out as my other American food bloggers I subscribe too are the same. there’s been nary a word said on their e-letters about taking a minute or two this November 11th to honour the many war veterans who fought for your freedom and your fellow Americans freedom, my freedom and my fellow Canadians freedom on November 11 ( which is called Remembrance Day in Canada. ). It’s sad to say the least.

Hi Joycelyn, I appreciate your comment and feedback. It is not lost on me all what the men and women of this country have done and continue to do. I try to focus on food as much as I can.We just recently welcomed our little girl so I’m doing the best I can do on my maternity leave and running Cookie + Kate.

Your website is amazing. I’m 12 years old looking for vegetarian recipes for me and my mom to make, and this is the best website so far. Sometimes It’s hard for me to find stuff without nuts and without meat and even though in your recipes you have nuts, you always give other options. I really appreciate that!
melty
Hi Kate, first time visitor, and the comments have inspired me to try your pineapple cashew stir fry. Also. Your dog. Painfully cute.
Congratulations on motherhood!
Kate
Thank you, Melty! I hope you love them.
Emily
Countless recipes of yours are in my rotation. Any time someone tells me they are looking for new recipes or considering a vegetarian diet I refer them here. I really appreciate how your recipes use ingredients I can find and language I can easily interpret. Also as a lifelong vegetarian I love that I don’t have to worry about finding a way to replace or eliminate meat in any of your recipes. Just wanted to say thanks for being you and sharing your love for cooking- I’m off to make seriously good vegetable soup now!
Kate
You are so kind, Emily! I’m delighted you are enjoying them.
Carleen
I love your recipes! We just made your Ranch dressing for the second time in a week, it’s so good! It tastes so fresh, we won’t be buying the jarred kind again. Your Vegetarian Italian Chopped salad, Salsa, Tortilla soup, Simple Strawberry smoothie and Quick pickled onions are regulars at our house. Your pictures make me want to try every recipe even the ones with ingredients we don’t usually like. I am so glad I found your Food Blog, thanks for all the wonderful recipes and when is the next book coming out?
Kate
Thank you, Carleen! I’m delighted you are enjoying so many recipes. I don’t have a cookbook in the works, but I’m glad you are enjoying my current one!
Sandy Goudreau
Your little dog is the cutest!!
Kate
Thank you, Sandy!

My wife and I are both vegans and love good flavorful soups. A month ago I found your recipe for the lentil soup, followed your directions exactly and it turned out a-MAZE-ing! Today I made this soup for the third time. You did a great job of communicating the instructions (many recipes don’t) and this soup is now part of my limited but excellent repertoire of things I can make. Thank you so much for sharing it; I’ll check your site for other dishes as well.
Mara
I had a major chuckle. Came to get your recipe for a Hot Toddy.
I always tell people that if they’re sice, make a Hot Toddy. My name is Mara. Here is your text from the recipe.
“Hot toddies are lovely slow sippers or nightcaps. Mara says….”
Kira
My boyfriend and I love to cook and while we have many cookbooks we tend to pull from, your cookbook and blog are by far our favorites! A lot of the recipes we try from other sources tend to be hit or miss but your’s are always amazing! We love all the nuanced flavors your recipes have. I’m vegetarian and my boyfriend is not but we always find common ground when enjoying your recipes.
Kate
I’m so delighted to hear that, Kira! I appreciate you taking the time to share.
SunnyGirl
Hi Kate. Love the blog! I have found so many new favorite recipes over the years. Do you have a collection of freezer friendly recipes? I am looking for healthful made-ahead meals I can bring to friends recovering from surgery, childbirth, etc.
Have any of your recipes frozen exceptionally well? Thanks!
Kate
Hi! I wish I had a great go-to resource of my freezer friendly options. I hope one day to have that! Most of my soups freeze well and enchiladas are great options.
Ellen
Kate,
Do you ever make Cookie dog biscuits? I can’t see one on your website, but would love to make healthy treats for our dog. She has a lot of allergies and, I think, would benefit from homemade goodies.
Kate
I don’t, sorry!
Devie
It is freezing here and I just made this delish lentil soup. Had to substitute fresh tomatoes for the canned so it was not as red but really good. I added a couple tablespoons of nut milk and a dollop of pesto. It may even inspire me to make some fresh tortillas!
Rich
Several years ago I looked up vegetarian recipes for a meal I was preparing for my brother. Your rice bowls (w/ beer beans) was my choice for that evening and since then your recipes are a weekly part of feeding my family. I have the cookbook and try to select something different from it every week. Your recipes have made me and my family both happy and healthy. Thank you!
Kate
Thank you for sharing, Rich!
Erin
I am a mom who loves to make fresh, healthy meals for my family. Cookie and Kate is my go to for meals and I always get a great response, especially from my kiddo. With that said, now that YOU are a mom, my challenge is finding healthy, filling, high protein/fiber snacks I can send to school. Would you ever consider venturing into kid approved meals and snacks? Or maybe you know of some already. Thanks! Be well.
Kate
Hi Erin! Thank you for your comment. I am excited to see what my own little one enjoys and see what I can from there. She is only 5 months so we have some time yet.
Michael Ivers
Your best chickpea salad recipe took me at most 10 minutes of chopping and mixing, and it’s quite delicious for a quick meal. Thanks!
Lisa A.
Kate-
I have been reading your blog and using your recipes for years. Your recipes have never disappointed. Your instructions are clear and your modifications are very helpful. Not only that, your website is beautifully set up and so easy to read and navigate. Your photography is also wonderful. I just wanted to tell you how much I appreciate your blog and you. Thank you so much for all that you do
Kate
You’re kind, Lisa! Thank you for your review.

Hi Kate,
I do 6 months of batch cooking and baking for my 83 year old mom. I visit her in Texas and stay for about 11 days and make 3 to 4 double/triple/quadruple batches of all her favorite recipes for the freezer. When I visit her, I make your pumpkin bread and banana nut bread (though I make muffins) and your hummus recipe. She and I love them so much! I’m going to try more of your recipes in the future for sure! Also, your food pictures and youtubes are so beautiful! Thank you for working so hard which makes things so much easier on those who make your recipes!
Kate
Thank you for sharing, Patti! How kind of you and I’m glad you both can enjoy my recipes together.
Sabrina
Hi Kate, I regularly find myself coming back to your blog while searching for new recipes and whenever I deviate I’m disappointed. You’re recipes are amazing, they’re always balanced but bursting with flavour. Whenever I cook your recipes, I’m told by friends and family it tastes ‘cheffy’ & I guess that’s the ultimate compliment… you really are skilled and totally understand flavours xx
Kate
You’re so kind, Sabrina! I’m so happy to hear you love my recipes.
Dee
I have your website in my favorites and always read your blog that comes in my email. Love all your recipes and share your site often! Thanks for all your good dreaming!!!
How’s Cookie? I tell my two cats, Saber and Blaze, stories about him. They like that but will not eat kale:).

Kate,
Been a follow for years. We live on a produce farm in Leavenworth, KS (Green Thumbs Up). This is the prime season for Bok Choi, at the OP Farmers Market we sold over 200 mini heads this morning and I have about 30 heads left in my fridge. I am searching your site and do not find a single recipe, is that possible?
Karalee
You just made my day and I’m thrilled that I found you. I do intermittent fasting and it is important that my one meal in the day be super delicious.
Diana Jacobson
Hi Kate
I understand how hard it is to watch your loved furry companion and family member get older. You have taken such good care of Cookie–we always laugh at my house that our rescue dogs won the lottery, and I am sure that Cookie did too. Love her up with many hugs because these happier memories will help you at the end of her life. Hugs.
Kate
Thank you for your review, Diana! I appreciate your review.
Margaret
Kate! Your recipes are brilliant. And the way you make them simple to make, I love! I have been using your cookbook and recipes for about 4 years, and I have just recently transitioned to a fully vegetarian diet. I love your website and I have never made anything of yours that my meat-loving husband did not also appreciate! Our favorite is the chickpea tikki masala :) thank you for the beautiful photos and inspiration!
Kate
Thank you, Margaret! I’m so happy to hear how much you have been loving my recipes.
Tesah
Your cook book is the first of many that I’m genuinely in love with every recipe I’ve made so far, which is a lot, and so is my meat eating husband. You are truly talented.
Susan Sims
Love your site! Looked up Australian Koolie..Cookie may be mixed but the Koolie certainly came through. Cute little dog!!
Dyan Mercado
I echo most (if not all) of the past comments, I cannot help but agree with them. This is my go-to food blog whenever I feel like cooking nutritious and tasty meals. Just like most of them, it is bookmarked in my browser. :)
We appreciate your sharing your passion on food and inspiring the foodies in us! Thank you so much, Kate! :)
More power to you! Keep the good food recipes coming!
Kate
Thank you, Dyan! I’m glad C+K is a go-to place for you.
Germaine
Many thanks for your wonderful work. I am particularly interested in your thick, healthy hair, as I have recently lost all of mine. Did you notice a time when it became thicker and stronger, and if so, what would you recommend? Best wishes!
Kate
Hi! I have received questions about my hair in the past. Send me an email at hello@cookieandkate.com and I can give you my overview :)
Melissa
You recipes are reliable, flavorful, and amazing! Thank you! Sometimes I follow them nearly perfectly, and sometimes I take many liberties due to preference and ingredient availability. In both scenarios, my meal is always delicious! I recommend your site to people all the time, both in person and online in food groups I follow. The photos are great inspiration as well.
Kate
Thank you for sharing, Melissa!
Jeannine
Thanks to your blog I started cooking on my own (more than just pasta).
Not only are your recipes healthy and super tasty AND veggie/vegan but also easy, thanks to clear step by step instructions. There’s number of recipes I have failed to cook successfully but never yours. The only hurdle for me is the non metric system and occasionally, products that don‘t exist here (I‘m from Switzerland).
Still, this my absolute favorite food blog, so thank you!
Vanessa
Hello Kate, I tried your recipe for overnight oats, I made a mistake of added a little to much peanut butter but I have made it again and used less, I’m not sure how it will taste but I believe it will be delicious. I absolutely love cookie, she is such a cute dog. Im excited to explore your website and try new foods. I am so glad I found a blogger who posts healthy meals who also has great photos.
Kate
I hope you loved it, Vanessa! How did it turn out?
Julie
Hi Kate! I’ve been baking with your recipes for years. One of my family’s all time favorites is your healthy banana bread (and we make it not as healthy because we always add in dark chocolate chips!). We’ve loved everything that we’ve made and your site is definitely my first choice when looking for a recipe. Just wanted to thank you!
Liz Fraley
Hi Kate!
Thank you for all your wonderful, healthy recipes. You feed my family every week. For years, I’ve been trying to find another cookbook that I like as much as Love Real Food and I can’t. Which leads me to my question, do you have plans to publish another one??
*fingers crossed*
Kate
Hi Liz, I’m delighted you are loving my recipes so much. Unfortunately, I don’t have another cookbook. I hope to be posting more new recipes soon on the blog!
D Money
Love your vegetarian recipes. Please keep at it!
Anthony
Hi,
Do you have a favorite granola butter recipe?
Kate
Hi, I’m not sure what you mean? I have my favorite The Very Best Granola
Ellie Horner
Do you cook dog food for Cookie?
Kate
I don’t :)
Kevin
I just tried your Huevos Rancheros recipe and my wife and I loved it! We were at a party on Saturday and the host had a lot of pinto beans left over, so we brought some home with the host’s suggestion to make huevos rancheros (I mean if you live in Texas…). I found your recipe and it was perfect the first time! Although we are not vegetarians, I’ll keep looking for more great recipes because we like just about any type of fooe! Thank you!
Kate
Hooray! I’m glad it was a hit.
Olga
Hello, Kate!
I wanted to join so many people’s comments and say how amazing your recipes are! I came across your site by accident while looking for a butternut squash soup and I’m so glad I did. I have now tried a carrot soup and a pumpkin soup. And yesterday I made pumpkin fettuccine Alfredo and roasted pumpkin seeds with maple syrup and black pepper. All of them turned out so delicious I can’t wait to try more. The balance of flavors that you have been able to achieve is outstanding. I have never thought you can do so much with maple syrup and cinnamon in savory dishes.
Big big thank you! I hope to see you on Food network in the future! :)
Simply amazing!
Kate
Thank you for sharing, Olga! This made my night. I hope you continue to try more recipes and be sure to comment and review.

I don’t eat veggies. But because of the impact on my family and friends, I do see the advantages and make a conscious attempt to look for vegetarian recipes. You produce stunning cookbooks, and Cookie is your darling canine companion. You promote your recipe books on the website. Display advertisements and affiliate marketing techniques are also available.
I’ve consistently told my family that as long as a vegan dinner looks tasty, I don’t consider eating it. But I’m not prepared to completely avoid taste. Your food photographs are well taken, your website has a white theme, and due to the fact that you make money from advertisements, it is neat and tidy.
My guide to the tastiest vegan dishes has been your website, literally. Everything I’ve tried from your website has become a staple on our menu. Every recipe is written as an entry in David’s online journal. I never leave comments online, but your recipes have brought me so much delight over the years that I owe you a huge debt of appreciation. I adore your concepts and methods! I really appreciate you sharing.
Marcia
Thank you for sharing your inspired recipes! The butternut squash soup is my go-to recipe for using up the squash I grew over the summer. Delicious and easy, perfect for lactose intolerant family members. My vegan friend loves it with a hearty addition of ginger.
Kate
You’re welcome, Marcia! I’m glad they are a hit with you and your family.
Jane
This is the best hummus recipe, ever! My husband, sons, daughter-in-laws, love it! I loved it so much, that I purchased your cookbook! Thank You!
Amanda Scott
Hi Kate, I love your recipes! Your site is the first one I visit when trying to figure out something different for dinner. Your Best Lentil Soup is truly The Best. Also, I’d always been a little scared of cold oatmeal but then I tried your Bircher Muesli less than 1 week ago and have had it 3 times since! And I’m so happy to see some beets recipes here as they’re one of my top five favorite vegetables, mostly because of the color. Another favorite of mine is rutabaga. I’m a Texan and people find it so strange that I love something that’s more traditionally eaten in Finland (according to my Finish colleague). Please, please make me some rutabaga recipes. I typically eat them raw or sauteed with other veggies, such as kale. I’ve also made a sort of rutabaga au gratin. I don’t want them mashed because I love the texture of big chunks. For this same reason, I don’t want them in a casserole or creamed soup. What do you think?
Kate
Thank you for your kind comment, Amanda! I appreciate it. I can’t promise any rutabaga recipes int he future, but I will take it down as a suggsetion.

I just want to let you know how much I appreciate your blog. I’m pretty sure I’ve tried more of your recipes than any other website I use except King Arthur Baking! Your banana bread recipe is my son and my go to for playdates…it has been a hit with every kid who’s eaten it and parents always ask for the recipe. You are the first place I check for great salad and veggie recipes. As a Registered Dietitian I recommend your blog to patients weekly and I’m pretty sure your “How to Cook Quinoa” recipe has helped dozens of people try this super food. So, thanks for what you do to help so many folks nourish their bodies well!
Kate
You are so kind, Emilie! I’m glad you trust my recipes and come to the blog so often.

Hi Kate, My Grandma was also Kate (Catherine) She raised 17 kids. Two World Wars and the Great Depression came & went while she was doing it. She was very thrifty and used everything in the garden and everything but the mood in a cow and the cackle in a chicken. My Dad (her youngest son) was the same and taught me well
Lenny
Hi Kate –
Made your lentil soup for my wife, who is Taiwanese and very particular about her food. A couple of days a month she is a vegetarian for personal reasons. I followed the recipe very closely, and amazingly she liked it. In fact, she ate three bowls! (she usually doesn’t like my food, which doesn’t surprise me) Thanks for your recipe. I would continue to follow your blog and try and keep the other half happy! ps She loves pasta, so will look for those dishes.
Josephine
Hi
I love your recipes.I never knew vegetarian foods are delicious
Josephine
I never regretted eating the food.
